¡Hola!

Mi nombre es Mariella.

And I am your teacher!

I come from Chile, in South America, where I trained as an English teacher. I have taught foreign languages in a variety of different environments, from teaching Spanish to airline pilots and UN representatives, to teaching English to disadvantaged teenagers in Chile. I recently moved to the Faringdon area where I live with my husband, our little boy, our (Chilean!) cat and five ducks.

I was inspired to teach young British children by my son, Andrés, who is learning English and Spanish as he grows up. He made me realise how easy it is for young children to pick up a language. Children absorb so much at a young age, it's almost like they're learning the second language in parallel with their own. Unfortunately, by the time most people in the UK start learning a foreign language, it’s an uphill struggle.

I'm a big believer in making learning fun and boosting the confidence of my pupils. Nobody picks up a language quickly when they're bored! Having a professional teaching background, I also understand the value of a structured, well-planned course with a clear objective.

I'm also very keen to establish links between Vale of White Horse schools and schools in Chile, where I have many contacts. If you have any suggestions relating to this, please do get in touch.
